Hey everyone. So glad to be back. I seriously hurt my back and couldn't do much of anything in my free time. The good news is that I feel better. This song is just on my brain because I'm doing a jazz dance to it. I have to figure out how to edit the time on it. It's a little too long for what I want to do with the dance. So I'm listening to it a little today to see what sections I want to keep. I just love how high energy the song is. It really gets you excited when you hear it. Plus, it has a since of humor. Who doesn't like that.

I really want to see the new stage show of Newsies on Broadway. I was looking it up on youtube and found some great excepts of the musical and a behind the scenes interview. Now I really really want to see it. I don't live in New York and think it's only playing 12 weeks. I trying to dream up a way of seeing it. Might just be a dream though. Ha ha! Seize the Day is a great song to pump you up for the hard life stuff. I love that about the song. The lyrics in the musical seem a little bit different, so I posted a video of both the movie and excerpt from the stage show today to avoid lyrical confusion.

My mom discovered this cello duo recently. She's a beginner cello player so she's always on the look out for interesting cello performances. She's been telling everybody about 2Cellos. I had to check them out. These guys are awesome. They rock! You just feel the passion and energy in their playing. I download their album and I'm listening to it right now. This version of Smells Like Teen Spirit is pretty darn shiny. It's even more fun to watch them perform it.

I picking this for sort of weird reason. I was trying to remember something random while getting ready for work this morning. I thought "for the life of me I can not remember". Which of course in a lyric in this song. Thus, I ended up singing it. It was a good thing I've kind of missed listening to this song. It is definitely a melancholy tune, but that's what I like about it. It has a beautiful melody and an interesting rhyme scheme.

Tonight was Glee's Michael Jackson episode. I've had this song in my head ever since watching it. I thought it was a perfect song for the last day of the month. After work this morning I took time to listen to Chairlift's new album Something. I love it! It is so good. Great beats and melodies. Just generally great musicianship. I had some free time to listen to Ingrid Michaelson's new album Human Again. I enjoyed all the songs. I have to listen to the album again before I find all my favorites. Every song had a really cool sound with lovely instrument work and great rhythm. There are several great break up/relationship songs which you know I love. However, I decided to pick this song instead of one of those. It's positive and I'm in a excellent mood. I love that it has such a fabulous string section all the way though. It has a new melody too. Ok I'm totally sucking at posting lately. I do still want to do this blog. I'm just did not predict that I was going to have so much to do at work. Last night I totally could have posted. However, my mom and I both got ukuleles this weekend, and we lost track of time jamming on them until 5 a.m. I was wacky fun. I keep hearing this song in the various places. It was used for one on my favorite show Once Upon A Time. I heard it again today so I decided to listen to the whole song. I love the chorus. The melody is great. It go a lot of fun effects in the background too. Kerri Roberts has a voice that sounds like a Christian artist, so I wasn't surprised that she was when I listened to a couple of her other songs. They're all very high energy. I might see I can find some of her music to use in my jazz dance class.

Oh my gosh! I totally haven't posted since the 6th. That is so totally lame of me. This year's Christmas dance show totally knocked me out in terms of posting. I was literally running all over trying to get ready. After it was all over I got sick. I finally felt good enough to write some yesterday, but I I only had the energy to write on my book blog. So I'm finally back.

I picked this song for a couple reasons. While I wasn't posting I kept getting all sorts of Imogen Heap songs in my head during the day. To add to that fact this song reminds me of the holidays every time I hear it. I think it's a great depiction of what it's like to be around the people you love during this time. How you adore them but some of them get on you second nerve some times. How being around every one near the end of the year gives you hope and a moment to forget all your past struggles. The idea of a song being about that just amuses me, and I think a lot of people can relate to it. I know I do.

I totally had a mix feeling day. I started off feeling grumpy because I kept losing stuff. Then I took ballet class and did really well. I was actually in high spirits. Then I went to look at my playlists on the Napster app. on my phone and got a nasty surprise. You might have read my Twitter rant on this already, but I'm going to rant some more. Napster randomly merged with Rhapsody with no warning at all. First of all I hate Rhapsody. The last time I used it the interface sucked. The reason I used Napster is because I hated Rhapsody so much (but not as much as I hate itunes I really hate itunes). First Rhapsody took over my favorite music program Yahoo Music and now they just had to have Napster. Grr! To add insult to injury all my dance class playlists are saved on Napster. I stream my music from that app to save money because I'm a dance teacher and to get all that music I need for class would cost an arm and a leg.

The playlists from Napster are supposed to transfer over to Rhapsody, but have they done that yet? No! I can't even log in to the darn thing like that said I should be able to. So basically two hours before I had to teach class I had to come up with a last minute back up plan, which included Amazon downloads, CDs, and the creative usage of Grooveshark. Ugg! I have no idea what I'm going to do for music for hip hop class tomorrow. To say that I'm super P.O.'d is an understatement. I looked and even the non-app related downloaded music and playlists that I have on my phone's SD card were jacked up. What is that? Why do electronic devices hate me today? And I hurt my knee after all this insanity. Sigh... at least I got to play guitar this afternoon, my students did very well, and I had fun in Zumba which made me feel a little better.

What does any of this have to do with the song? Well after all the craziness. I really just wanted to listen to something positive and fun. I've blogged this song already, but I think my personal sanity is worth picking a song twice. How can this song not make you smile. I already feel better. I mean my knee still hurts, but emotionally I'm heading in a positive direction. Ahh...ice on my knee such a beautiful thing.

Interpretation

Because this is part of a concept album with a bit of a story with characters and such, it's surprisingly easy to understand (for a Tori song away), but terribly hard to explain. Why It's The Song of The Day

Last night I listened to Tori Amos' new-ish album "The Night of The Hunter." Apparently it came out in September and I didn't really know of it until now. I haven't been looking at much Tori stuff in a very long time. I only just found out about it. Since I'm into a lot of piano stuff lately I figure this was definitely an appropriate time to listen to it.

I enjoyed it. I guess it is supposed to be based on classical themes so it is very different from her other albums. The songs don't often have the average verse chorus structure, but it worked because it had sort of a light opera musical theater type sound. Songs in that type of style rarely use the normal structure anyway. The instrumentation was the best thing about the album. All those wonderful classical orchestral instruments. Some songs like this one she sings with her daughter which is very interesting. Overall, I like "The Night of The Hunter." It very laid back and great to listen to while reading. I've had this "Snowblind" melody in my head quite a bit today.

I went to visit my grandparents today. I needed to listen to music for the car ride there. Usually I save some albums offline on my Napster app. for this occasion. Unfortunately I hadn't set up my new phone for that yet. So I had to use the music already on my phone. It was still great because I just happen to have awesome travel music. I listened to Minnie Driver, Florence and the Machine, my playlist of individual songs I've bought, and obviously Pete Yorn and Scarlett Johansson. Hence, the song of the day. I thought I would pick something groovy after all the melancholy songs. Well I guess the theme of the song isn't joyful but the background stuff is groovy.

It was a nice Thanksgiving. Spent most of the day watching TV. Tonight they had a cool concert on Crossroads on CMT with Vince Gill and Sting playing together. I love Crossroads, but I don't get to watch it very often because I never know when it's on. My mom read an article on her phone about it being on tonight, so we totally had to watch it. It was very cool. They performed very well together. This is one of the song that was performed. I love this song. It is so clever. Very poetic and like I said metaphorical. The guitar on it is so beautiful. Awesome!

I heard this somewhere and just thought it was a great song for today. I just like it. I was listening to Ron Pope last weekend, so this represents my musical tastes for the the month as well. I really should have picked this way back on Saturday or Sunday. However, by the time I worked, ran all over town getting things done, spent time with a friend that was having a bad day, and hung out with family I ended up not posting. The reason for the song choice goes all the way back to Saturday night when I was hanging out with my friend. At the end of the night we just sat in the car and listened to the whole August and Everything After Album. We sang along with all the songs and it was a lot of fun. Every song on this album is great. I love the mood of "Raining In Baltimore." The fact that it only has piano on it really fits the loneliness expressed in the lyrics. By the way, I'm not depressed despite that sad songs I'm picking. I'm actually quite happy. I'm just really into deep songs right now.

I haven't studied very long. However, this is what I'm getting from it so far. I think perhaps it centers around the idea that death is coming for someone that, and a longing to be with them again after they die. Another interpretation I thought of is making a deal with death and sacrificing your life so that the one you love can live. Hmm...I'm thinking the second one now that I've read the lyrics over.

I actually got a moment to sit still over last night and today to listen to Florence & The Machine's new-ish album. I haven't listened to it all yet, but I'm enjoying it so far. There is an interesting mix of styles that you can hear. Very cool. Anyway, I believe this song is the first single from the album. I love it. So many interesting sounds to listen to. Of course the beat is great and the melody is lovely. I figure I also love it because it's a little on the sad side. Sad songs are awesome!

I've made it my mission to post my posts earlier in the day. I'm just too tired to at night time. Plus, it make more sense to post it in the day since it's the song of the day. Ha ha. Anyway, I was concerned about what I would end up picking out for today this morning. The first song I sang in the shower was "Opps I Did It Again." *Shudder.* However, though out the day my singing tastes became more normal. Lately the songs in my head range between holiday tunes, jazz standard, and musical theater songs. "Not While I'm Around" was in my head just now and hence it is now the song of the day. I'm always deeply amused that such a sweet song is set in such a dark musical. Ha ha. It fits really well in the piece regardless. Plus, it's just a pretty song on it's own.

I used to have the karaoke for that song and sing it all the time. It great fun to sing. It's equally as awesome to listen to. It has so many interesting words used in it. I actually have two reasons for picking the song. It not just because I like it this time. One: I needed to take a moment and listen to something with a great fun melodic beat to drown out the sound of the business next door moving things and playing the most obnoxious rap music ever created. Two: I'm feeling kind of overwhelmed. My current interpretation of the song is something I can related to. Plus, the music video for the song is awesome and just makes me smile. I bought Nightmare Before Christmas a couple days ago. I've had this song in my head at random times ever since. Actually it was in my head before I bought the movie which is why I think I bought it in the first place. I think the film is awesome. Very ghoulish and cute at the same time. I was very into listening to My Chem this over the weekend. I was particularly intrigued with this song. I find it strange that I was so suddenly intrigued by it. It's on my favorite of their albums The Black Parade, so I've heard it tons of times. I guess I never really listened to it closely before. I really liked the cadence of the melody. I also find the lyrics on the chorus interesting.

I felt like picking something emotional tonight for some reason. This is a very emotional song. I just love the feelings expressed in the vocal. I the piano is so beautiful. The way the lyrics get the point of the song across in a very poetic way without being overwhelm. Awesome!

My mind was suddenly a medley of Dido songs and it all began with this song. Hmm. Guess Dido was just the music I felt like singing. I always thought this was a rather cool semi-story song. The idea of it is so interesting.

Why It’s The Song Of The Day

One of my mom's music students gave her a CD by Need To Breathe yesterday. We've been listening to the album in the car. I really like this band. They have wonderful strong instrumentation and the lead singer has a cool vocal style. It is definitely music I will be listening to a lot more. I enjoyed many of the songs, but I felt like this one was one of them that I could relate to. If you want to listen to the song you'll have to click the lyric link above. Tonight I went to an charity/church event. Nicole C. Mullen was a guest speaker and singer. She sings beautifully by the way. A lot of what she said really spoke to me. The woman that ran the orphanage the event was for spoke an awesome prayer as well. Over all it was a great experience and fellowship with Christians. Worshiping Jesus and hearing great insights was just what I needed in my life at the moment. It reaffirmed what I already know the God is in control and to not let anyone try to steal my joy. Everything will work out the way it's supposed to and in some ways it already has.

Gosh, girls can be so darn mean. I have never been someone that is into girl drama. I personally think it's ugly. Anyway, this song is an example of mean girl mentality. It's kind of making fun of it in a groovy way. It's just a fun song in general.

I actually have a bunch of hip hop songs in my head. However, I did feel like picking a hip hop song. I want to pick something with an unusual sound so I though a Bjork song would be a good choice. I think the lyrics on this song are really amusing. I like the strong base line too.
